Movement classes have become a popular choice for people looking to improve their fitness, flexibility, and overall well-being. Whether you are a beginner or a seasoned mover and shaker, our classes offer a welcoming environment that allows everyone to thrive.

Benefits of Movement Classes

Movement classes provide a host of benefits regardless of your fitness level. They focus on mobility, strength, and coordination, allowing participants to engage their bodies in a holistic way.

  1. Accessibility: Movement classes cater to all ages and fitness levels, from newcomers to fitness enthusiasts. This inclusivity creates a supportive environment where people feel comfortable participating without fear of judgment.

  2. Adaptability: Exercises in movement classes can be adjusted to meet individual needs and limitations. For instance, a senior participant can perform modified stretches while more advanced students may choose to challenge themselves with enhanced variations.

  3. Community Support: Joining a movement class means becoming part of a community. Supportive classmates motivate each other to push their limits. This spirit of camaraderie can boost attendance and persistence in fitness routines.

  4. Improved Coordination: Classes focus on enhancing balance and coordination, which are essential not just for physical performance but also for daily activities. Better coordination can help reduce the risk of falls and injuries, especially for older participants.

  5. Stress Relief: Movement can be an excellent stress reliever. The physical activity involved in these classes releases endorphins, which can enhance your mood and improve mental health.

Understanding Movement Classes

Movement classes vary in style, format, and focus but generally promote fluidity and grace in physical activity. They might include elements of yoga, dance, Pilates, and functional movement training.

1. Styles Center of Gravity offers:

  • Yoga: Encourages flexibility, balance, and mindfulness. Different yoga styles cater to various fitness levels and what people are hoping to get out of their practice. We offer vinyasa flow, chair yoga, Iyengar based hatha yoga, power yoga, yin yoga, and aerial yoga.

  • Pilates: Mat classes focus on core strength and stability, often using specialized equipment for added resistance.

  • Dance: Fun and energetic, dance classes allow participants to express themselves while staying fit. Try out our Groove Dance Experience classes in July! We also offer social dance class series for individuals and couples.

  • Tai Chi & Qi Gong: Eastern energy practices through flowing movements and sequences that can help balance internal energies for overall wellness.

  • Barre Fitness: A fitness class with elements of ballet using props and resistance for strength, balance, and cardiovascular health.

2. How Often?: Depending on your schedule, it is healthy to move your body in a variety of ways every day. From low impact walking or group classes to using weights and getting your heart rate up with cardio fitness, always make sure you check your ability to do any exercise with your doctor.

3. Instructor Guidance: Qualified, experienced instructors lead our classes, ensuring that participants maintain proper form to avoid injury. They can provide modifications for students needing additional assistance or baseline moves for each exercise. Never hesitate to ask questions before, during, or after class. We want to make sure you feel safe and comfortable with the movements our teachers do during class. And your awareness of your own body is your best teacher. If something feels wrong, you always have permission to not do it. Our teachers can't feel what you're feeling and no one will be offended if a move isn't for you.

The beauty of a movement workout lies in its adaptability. For example, beginners might focus on low-impact exercises while advanced participants can incorporate higher-intensity drills for more challenge.

Many individuals find that movement workouts help build a mind-body connection. This awareness fosters better technique and can improve overall performance in sports or other fitness endeavors.

Finding the Right Class

Choosing the right movement class is crucial to ensure you have an enjoyable experience. Here are some tips:

  1. Ask Us: We are so happy to find the right fit for your body and schedule. We know our teachers and their styles and intensity of classes. We can recommend a few classes to get you started.

  2. Try our Intro Week Pass: If you're new to our studio, we offer a 7 day intro pass that allow up to 7 classes. It's a great way to try out a few classes you like if you have some free time this summer. It's only $25 for new clients.

  3. Ask About Modifications: Speak to the instructor about any injuries or limitations you have. A good instructor will accommodate your needs and provide alternatives to keep you safe.

  4. Set Goals: Determine what you want to achieve from your practice, whether it’s improved flexibility, stress relief, or strength. Setting specific goals can help maintain your motivation. Sometimes it also helps to put a weekly class or two on your calendar so you already have that time set aside and you're more likely to keep the date with yourself.

Engaging in a variety of classes, you can enjoy a well-rounded practice that caters to your individual needs while building strength, flexibility, and community. These classes offer an innovative approach to wellness—allowing anyone to participate, regardless of their starting point.
